This past weekend the members of the Hudson’s Hope Patrol, 4CRPG , Canadian Rangers conducted a GSAR exercise. The senario was that two hunters had traveled out into the wilderness and the vehicle that they were in had broken down and left them stranded. They then left their vehicle and tried to walk out. This is where the situation turns bad for our lost hunters.
The first night the hunters construct a makeshift shelter and are able to light a fire. The weather has in real life turned for the worst. The temperature is warm but the precipitation is switching between snow and rain.
The hunters awake in the morning to find that they can not find witch way they came from as their tracks are not distinguishable from wild animals due to the snow partially filling them in and the rain distorting the tracks. They decide to keep going to try and find help.
The search team composed of the rest of Hudson’s Hope patrol now are given the word that some hunters have become lost somewhere near the Johnston Creek and or Utah road systems. The setup camp and begin the search.
Great time and we learnt alot about GSAR. Thanks to Rng. Garner for the planning of this one.
